Sometime, somewhere, for some reason, when you least expect it, the system will die. Whether the terminal event for the system becomes a terminal event for the business depends on how good the continuity and disaster planning was in its design and implementation.

The type of backup employed is dependant on many factors and elements, the mix of which may be unique to the site or business. The backup and recovery plan needs to be critically constructed, implemented, tested, practiced, and revised. Given that this has taken place and is taking place, a disaster need not be a catastrophe.
