Just like checking out printed books from a library, you can check out digital editions from online libraries or online bookstores. The advantage to these borrowed digital editions is that you never have to worry about paying late fees again. Digital editions are automatically checked back in for you. Borrowed digital editions are indicated in your My Digital Editions window by a thumbnail of the book with a Time-out icon next to it.

1.

Borrow a Digital Edition

Adobe has an online digital editions library demo that can be found at the following site: http://librarydemo.adobe.com/library/. Select a digital edition from one of the categories available, such as Children's Books, Literature & Fiction , or Mystery & Thrillers . Select whether you would like to borrow the digital edition for 1 day or 3 days. Then click the Add to Bookbag button. A Bookbag web page appears prompting you to download your eBook. After it is downloaded, a thumbnail of the digital edition appears in your My Digital Editions window.

2.

Return a Digital Edition

When you are finished reading the digital edition, you can return it to the library by clicking the Time-out icon indicated by a small clock located on the thumbnail of the digital edition. The Document Expiration dialog box appears and displays the expiration date, an OK button, and a Return to Lender button. Click the Return to Lender button to return the digital edition. This removes the borrowed digital edition from your My Digital Editions window. To close the dialog box, click the OK button.

TIP

To see when a borrowed digital edition expires , click the Time-out icon on the thumbnail of the book. When the borrowing period has expired , the digital edition is automatically "returned" and disappears from your My Digital Editions window.

TIP

Some online libraries limit the number of digital editions you can check out at one time, so you might want to get in the habit of promptly returning digital editions so you do not exceed your limit.
