Just as you might occasionally need to combine pages from multiple PDFs into a single file, you might also need to sometimes extract pages from a PDF into a separate file. Extracting pages creates one or more separate files from individual pages or a range of pages within a PDF.

1.
Specify Pages to Be Extracted

From the Document menu, select the Extract Pages command. At the top of the Extract Pages dialog box, specify the page range you want extracted from the current document.

KEY TERM

Extracting Extracting a page or range of pages creates a new PDF file that contains those pages. The selected page or pages can be deleted from the original document, if desired, during the process.

2.
Choose Extraction Settings

Click the Delete Pages After Extracting check box if you want the page range you specified in step 1 to be deleted from your document. If you leave this check box unselected , your current document will be unaffected by the extraction.

Click the Extract Pages As Separate Files check box if you want each page in the extraction range to be saved as a separate, one-page PDF file. If you leave this check box unselected, all the pages will be extracted into a single PDF file.

After you have made your extraction choices, click the OK button. Acrobat then extracts the pages.

3.
Set Destination for Multiple Files

If you selected the Extract Pages As Separate Files check box in step 2, Acrobat presents a Browse for Folder dialog box. When this dialog box appears, either navigate to the folder where you want the single-page PDF files to be saved or click the Make New Folder button and create a new folder. When a location has been selected or created, click the OK button and Acrobat saves all the extracted pages as individual files in the specified location. The name of each file is the name of the original PDF document plus the page number (for example, pages 1820 of the Annual Report would be saved as Annual Report 18, Annual Report 19 , and Annual Report 20 ).

4.
Save the File

If you did not select the Extract Pages As Separate Files check box in step 2, Acrobat extracts the specified pages into a new file named Pages from plus the name of the original file. This is a temporary name only; Acrobat prompts you to save the file before closing it or exiting Acrobat.
