Physical Layer

The physical layer deals with how the data signals are transmitted on the network cable or other transmission medium. The physical layer handles the mechanical and electrical procedures and is oblivious of whether the signal is made up of digital bits or is in analog form. Parts of the physical layer include the type of cabling and the network interface card (NIC).
