Chapter 9: Windows and Linux Network Interoperability

Overview

In this chapter, we'll take on several major network integration tasks . First, as an appetizer, we'll describe what is necessary to get a Windows Active Directory up and running (again), this time using a Linux server as the DNS server. We'll also show how to use a Linux branch office server as a DNS server and make it talk to our main Windows DNS servers.

In our "salad" course, we'll do a little Samba upgrade and show you how to get a Linux domain trusted by an Active Directory domain. This comes in handy for our "main dish."

As our main dish in this chapter, we'll configure Windows 2003's RRAS server to act as a VPN server that permits Linux and Windows users to connect remotely and act as if they were local nodes on our network.
