Additional Reading

  • The “Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Front-End and Back-End Topology” white paper is the definitive reference on the specifics of configuring FE/BE topologies for your network. It’s available from http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/.

  • The “Microsoft Outlook Web Access in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server” white paper (see http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/techinfo/outlook/2000/E2K_OWA.doc) provides good general coverage of Outlook Web Access administration.

  • Chapter 10 of the Exchange 2000 Planning Guide (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/itsolutions/guide/plan/p_10_tt1.asp) discusses Outlook Web Access capacity planning and deployment issues in some detail.

  • Shinder & Shinder have written an outstanding guide to using Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server, ISA Server and Beyond (Syngress). If you’re not an ISA Server expert, you’ll probably find this book worth its weight in gold. (Their earlier Configuring ISA Server 2000 is pretty good, but the newer book has much deeper Exchange and Outlook Web Access coverage.)

  • The isaserver.org Web site contains a number of useful articles about using ISA with Exchange, as well as a wealth of general ISA troubleshooting and deployment papers and articles that will help you get started.

  • Microsoft has an excellent troubleshooting guide for Outlook Web Access; it touches on troubleshooting procedures for many of the configuration steps described in this chapter. It is available from http://www.microsoft.com/TechNet/prodtechnol/exchange/exchange2000/support/trowae2k.asp.

  • The National Security Agency publishes Guide to Secure Configuration and Administration of Microsoft ISA Server 2000, a good overall guide to ISA Server security and deployment (see http://www.nsa.gov/snac/win2k/download.htm). In particular, the guide has additional coverage of the use of ISA on tri-homed systems.
