Chapter 25: Creating an Install Program

Overview

The Toolbox in the Microsoft integrated development environment (IDE) has a collection of prebuilt code that is useful for the programmer under special sets of circumstances, and the code always works correctly the first time (no programmer testing involved). The Toolbox dialogs are shown in the first part of this chapter.

The special sets of circumstances include file opening, editing, saving, and printing tasks ” tasks that are normally performed by the PC s operating system or commonly available applications, like word processors. In the printing arena, there is no application that will open a file and print it without passing the file through an intermediate application such as Word or Notepad to format the text in the file before printing. As a result, these prebuilt dialogs (other than the Open File dialog) have limited use in most programming applications.

The common controls are listed in the second part of the chapter, with references to the chapters in which they are discussed. The final section lists the Toolbox controls that are not specifically discussed in this text.
