Conclusion

 < Day Day Up >

Treat Wi-Fi-enabled communication within your organization's domain in the same way as you would treat an Internet connection. Subject it to the same security considerations. Consider adding (if already a part of the network ecosystem) VPN, Remote Authentication Dial-in User Server (RADIUS), or other remote user authentication protocols, as well as a strong firewall between the wireless network and the internal company LAN. (VPN and RADIUS each provide authentication and encryption that's much stronger than WEP.)

There is plenty of running room as the technology moves from the home to the enterprise and even (potentially) to a citywide, and even nationwide, level (if companies like Cometa Network have their way). Wi-Fi is truly the next big thing.

Finally, get used to thinking of wired remote access networks and the WLAN as a single network.
