Disabling the Print Command

I l @ ve RuBoard

If you decide that you don't want to let users print a movie through the limited Print command in the Flash Player contextual menu, you just need to label a frame in the main timeline !#p, which will disable the Print command in the Flash Player contextual menu. The !#p label only needs to appear in the main timeline once to disable printing for the entire movie. When you disable the Print command in the Flash Player contextual menu, you can still print content from the movie using ActionScript.

  1. Select frame 1 of the Actions layer, and enter !#p in the Frame label box.

When you select frame 1 of the Actions layer, you should see that the Frame label is currently set to //This is the ZooMX template. You added this comment label in Lesson 5, when you created the template that map5.fla is based on. Delete that label, and replace it with !#p.

  2. Choose Control > Test Movie.

When the Test Movie window opens, the movie is once again displayed in the Flash Player.

  3. Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) the movie to display the contextual menu.

The Print command is disabled. You can also disable printing from the Flash Player contextual menu by disabling the appearance of the contextual menu altogether. You'll do that in Lesson 12.

  4. Save the movie as map6.fla in the FlashTFS folder.

Now that the Print command in the Flash Player contextual menu is disabled, it's time to add some ActionScript that will let users print specific parts of the Flash movie. Be sure to save your file as map6.fla in the FlashTFS folder on your hard drive before you continue.
