Xiamen is China's sixth largest container port, with a handling volume of over 1 million TEUs in 2000. Xiamen is open to navigation with around 50 ports servicing over 30 countries and regions including Australia, Japan, Singapore, the USA, Canada and Hong Kong. Xiamen Gaoji International Airport has 33 airlines flying to all major cities in China as well as Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Macao, Manila, Osaka, Penang and Singapore. Xiamen is well connected to all parts of the country through the Yingtan- Xiamen Railway, which is linked up with the national rail network. Direct passenger services via rail are available between Xiamen and Shanghai, Nanjing, Hefei, Fuzhou, Nanchang and Yingtan. The Fuzhou-Xiamen and Zhangzhou-Xiamen Highways link Xiamen with every part of the Fujian Province and the provinces of Guangdong, Jiangxi and Zhejiang. Xiamen boasts a diversified highway transportation system with state- owned, Sino-foreign funded and Sino-foreign cooperative passenger and freight enterprises . Passenger services are provided daily between Xiamen and Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Longyan,Shantou, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, with deluxe limousines and light buses. Container freight services are also available between Xiamen and Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
