Major railways include the Beijing-Guangzhou line, Zhicheng-Liuzhou, Zhejiang-Jiangxi, Hunan-Guizhou and Hunan-Guangxi lines. The water transport network centres around the Dongting Lake. Highways link all counties and most of the rural townships in the province. Several trunk lines run across the province .

The international Huanghua Airport in Changsha operates regular services to major domestic and international cities.
