Multidimensional data structures built from one or more tables in a relational database. Usually resides in a Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) database.
Data Mining
Process of extracting meaningful data and predictive results from large amounts of data. Often tied to machine learning because to form predictions, a program must adjust its behavior based on the data it receives.
Data-Mining Algorithm
Mathematical formula that is the basis for analyzing large amounts of data with a mining model. Microsoft Analysis Services 2000 utilizes two algorithms, decision trees and clustering.
Data Warehouse
The ability to collect and store large amounts of data in a structure in which the data can easily be browsed. Generally a multidimensional structure so that data can be drilled down into.
DDL Data Definition Language
Set of definitions used to describe a database schema. For Microsoft SQL Server, specific commands that can be used to do such things as create and alter a database.
Decision Trees Algorithm
One of two popular algorithms used by Analysis Services to mine data. Creates a tree that allows the user to map a path to a successful outcome.
Discretized
For Microsoft Analysis Services, a set of discrete values. Discretized is a value used to identify the content type of a input variable for a mining model.
DMO Distributed Management Objects
Set of objects used to programmatically manage Microsoft SQL Server. Also known as SQL-DMO.
DOM Document Object Model
Part of Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) used to standardize the way applications access XML documents.
DSO Decision Support Objects
In Microsoft SQL Server, the set of functions used to programmatically administer SQL Server. Can be used, for example, to manage servers, databases, and mining models.
DTMF Dual Tone Multi-frequency Tones
High and low tones assigned to each button on a telephone. The summation of the wave amplitudes associated with these tones indicates which button has been pressed.
Dynamic Grammar
Grammar file created on-the-fly using code and Microsoft Speech Server SDK. Generally used to create a grammar in which data values may change often and are loaded from a database.
