Creating a New Song

 <  Day Day Up  >

Before we can actually begin recording, we have to first designate a space on the VS-1680's hard drive where our new song will be recorded. This is called creating a new song. To create a new song, press SHIFT F1 (Song) F2 (New). This brings you to the Song New screen. Here you will set the following parameters:

  • Sample Rate: If your final product will end up on a CD, the best sampling rate to choose is 44.1k. You can use 48k if you want, but you will still have to convert it to 44.1k before you can burn it to a CD, so I recommend using 44.1k for your recordings.

  • Record Mode: We covered the different recording modes in Chapter 8, "Introduction to the VS-1680/1880 Series." Use MTP for your recordings to get the best results.

  • Copy System Parameters: When this is set to On, you can create a new song that will have the same system parameters as the current selected song. Leave this off for now.

  • Copy Mixer/Scene Parameters: When this is set to On, you can create a new song that will have the same mixer settings and scenes as the current song. Leave this off for now.

  • Icon: You can select from a group of seven graphic icons to represent your song.

Once you are done making the appropriate selections, press F4 (EXEC). You will be asked, Create New Song, Sure? Press ENTER/YES.
