TIP 59: Selecting Tiny Images in Tables

Many users find it challenging to select small images, such as single-pixel GIFs, inside table cells. The zooming feature can help (see Tip 32), but sometimes there are even easier ways. For example, the Markup Tree in the status bar, located at the bottom of the document window, makes this delicate task very easy.

Select Upper Block

GoLive has a convenient feature that allows you to easily select the element or tag that encloses your current selection in the page you are editing. Invoke the Select Upper Block command by choosing it in the Special menu or press Command-Shift-B (Mac) or Control-Shift-B (Windows).

This handy command works in Layout, Source, and Outline modes and makes page editing much easier. Some practical uses include selecting nested tables, entire paragraphs, or stylized text.

First, select the table cell where the tiny image is positioned. Next, click and hold on the <td> tag in the Markup Tree and select the <img> tag to select the image (Figure 59a).

When the tiny image is selected, you'll see its attributes in the Inspector palette (Figure 59b). Now you can change its dimensions in the Inspector or delete the image.

Single pixel handling

When you place a single-pixel image in the Layout Editor, the dimensions are 32x32 pixels instead of 1x1. This makes it easy to select and resize the image. If you want force the single pixel image to use its 1x1 dimensions, click the Set to original size icon in the Inspector.
