TIP 60: Designing with Smart Guides

The GoLive engineers know a good thing when they see it. That's why they thanked the Illustrator team and then proceeded to put Smart Guides, which originated in Illustrator, into GoLive. What are Smart Guides, exactly? They are guides that automatically become visible as you are moving objects around a page. When the edge of one object lines up with the edge of another object, a smart guide magically appears that gives you an easy way to line up objects with incredible precision and speed (Figure 60).

Figure 60. Smart Guides automatically appear when one object encounters the edge of another object.

Choosing to Not Be Smart

If you prefer not to use Smart Guides, you can turn them off by deselecting Show Smart Guides from the View menu.

Smart Guides can be found in the following areas of GoLive:

  • When moving objects on a Layout Grid

  • When working with multiple layers

  • In the QuickTime Editor

  • In the SMIL Editor
