The heart of the target market for Exchange is the realm of the midsize organization. Exchange has always been a good choice for organizations of this size , and recent improvements in design components make it an even better match.

The example of a midsize organization is OrganizationY. OrganizationY is a software company headquartered in Manchester, Missouri. OrganizationY is composed of approximately 1200 users, 500 in Manchester, 300 in Los Angeles, 100 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and an additional 300 scattered in various smaller locations worldwide. OrganizationY determined that Exchange was best suited for its messaging needs and designed an Exchange Server 2003 infrastructure using the design criteria outlined in later sections.
