Summary

In the Elaboration phase, you drive down the biggest technical risks and set up your project for success. You want to make the Construction phase as smooth as possible, knowing that there will always be changes. You spend some time addressing the architecture along with other technical risks and develop an executable architecture. This lets you show your stakeholders a candidate architecture that you are able to implement. Just as important, you are able to show them working software.

The PSP Tools project was simple, but we identified some technical risks involving the database technology. We selected just enough of the requirements ”use cases and scenarios ”to implement in order to give us the confidence that we would be able to deliver software to our customer that satisfied his needs as we understood them. We also were able to reason about our solution and understand how it might be enhanced in the future to meet changing requirements.
