Section 13.2. Simple File Sharing

13.2. Simple File Sharing

If you own Windows XP Home Edition, there's a very easy way for anyone on the network to make certain folders available to everybody else on the network. This setup is almost perfect for PCs that are, in fact, at home. If it's just you and your spouse, or you and a co-worker, then you probably want maximum convenience and minimum protection from each other. If you need a peek at the spreadsheet that Harold was working on yesterday , no big dealyou just open up his My Documents folder from across the network.

Tip: If you want to establish individualized control for each person on your network, an upgrade to Windows XP Professional may be in your future. The techniques in this chapter, however, work equally well in both Professional and Home Editions.
