What You've Learned

  • GarageBand exports songs to iTunes as 44.1 kHz AIFF files and places them in an iTunes playlist, as determined by the GarageBand export preferences.

  • Exporting a song in GarageBand exports from the beginning of the first measure in the Timeline to the end of the last region in the Timeline.

  • Exporting a song from GarageBand with your cycle region on will export only the part of the Timeline within the cycle region.

  • GarageBand 2 will include music that extends beyond the last region because of effects like echo or reverb in the exported song.

  • GarageBand will not export tracks that are muted in the Timeline. Muting tracks before exporting allows you to export custom mixes of the songs.

  • You can use your playlist of GarageBand songs with all of the iLife applications, including iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD.

  • You can convert your playlist from AIFF format to MP3 format files by changing the import format in the iTunes preferences, and then choosing Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3.

  • Converting files in iTunes converts the file format of all selected files in your playlist. However, the original files remain in the iTunes Library in their original format.
