Text Objects Versus Text Boxes

PowerPoint supports various methods for entering text on a presentation slide. In the Slide pane, simply click the placeholder and type the text. In the Outline pane, position the blinking cursor where you want the text to appear and start typing.

Another method is to insert a text box on the slide and type your text in the box. This is not recommended, however, as the text is not included in the outline, nor in a spell check.

When you enter text in the Outline pane, PowerPoint automatically creates the text object placeholder if there is not one already, and enters the text into the placeholder. Before you enter text in the Slide pane, there must be a placeholder available. If you don't have a text placeholder available, either enter text in the presentation's Outline view or change the slide's layout.
