Analyze it in terms of the Taguchi triad: list the primary factors for its system design, those for its parameter design, and those for its tolerance design, if any. It has been said that most of consulting and engineering practice is the codified application of common sense and experience. Did you intuitively trade parameter factors for tolerance factors? How would the clarification of Taguchi's method have enlightened this process?
