89 Choosing DVD Templates in Premiere Pro

#89 Choosing DVD Templates in Premiere Pro

When Four Equals Two

All Main Menu templates have four buttons. However, two of these are dedicated to Play Movie and Scene Selection buttons, which you can't change. For this reason, the number of Main Menu markers you can insert in a single Main Menu is two, after which Premiere Pro will create an additional Main Menu to contain any additional Main Menu buttons.

All Premiere Pro templates include a "Main Menu" and a "Scenes Menu," and Premiere Pro will create as many menus as necessary for the Main Menu and scene markers you've created. It will also create all necessary links between menus and content. All you have to do is choose a template! Here's how:

1.

Choose Window > DVD Layout. Premiere Pro will open the DVD Layout dialog box.

Note

If you've not previously added a DVD menu to this project, the dialog box will contain the message "Auto-play DVD with no Menus." If you have previously selected a template, Premiere Pro will display that template.

2.

In the DVD Layout dialog box, click the Change Template button. Premiere Pro will open the DVD Templates dialog box (Figure 89a).

And the Winner Is...

If you're looking to cram as many thumbnail buttons as possible in a single menu, check out the Winter Main Menu in the Travel Theme option, which contains six thumbnails.

3.

Click the Apply a Template for a DVD with menus radio button.

4.

Click the Theme drop-down menu to view and select from the available themes.

Note

Note the Template Details box on the right of the DVD Templates dialog box in Figure 89a, which details the number of buttons in the Main Menu and Scenes Menu. Most Main Menus contain four buttons, while Scenes Menus contain between three and six buttons.

5.

Click your template of choice.

6.

Click OK to close the DVD Templates dialog box and return to the DVD Layout dialog box. Premiere Pro will display the initial Main Menu, with all submenus displayed in the DVD Menus window (Figure 89b).
