Use Palm® Reader to read ebooks wherever you go, without weighing yourself down. Bookmark pages, search for significant lines or words, and even attach notes. Ebooks are surprisingly readable on your handheld. Download titles from http://ebooks.palmone.com.

Icon to look for


New name

As this book was going to press, Palm Reader changed hands. It is now called eReader, but the version on your CD is still called Palm Reader. Download books at palmOne's eBook Store, which has over 12,000 titles under $10. Upgrade to eReader Pro to get advanced display options.


Audio books

Go to Audible.com and you'll find audio books to download to your handheld. The software is free and the audio books are sold separately, or by a monthly subscription. Audible software works with both Windows PCs and Macs.


Preferences and tools

Preferences

Select Menu > Options for a full set of preferences, plus Auto-scrolling. Turn the page by pressing down or right on the navigator.

Book tools

The toolbar performs the same functions as a menu. Choose which toolbar icons to show in Options > Toolbar Preferences.


Bookmarks and notes in books

Press the center navigator button to bookmark a page. To name a bookmark, select Go > Add Bookmark. Go to the bookmarks list (right) by tapping the bookmark icon.

From any page, create a note by selecting Go > Add Note (). To see all your notes within the book (shown here), tap the Note icon at the bottom of any page.



Find key passages

Impress your classmates by instantly searching out key words and phrases. Use the Find command () to move around books fast.


Take notes

Take notes as you read (tap Menu > Go > Notes), and then export them into a memo you can print from Palm Desktop. Select Menu > Book > ExportNotes , and then sync.

The toolbar icons in Palm Reader make it easy to bookmark pages, take notes, and even switch between books. Practice with them to speed up and enrich reading and studying.


Leave heavy books behind

Palm Reader lets you leave more books at home. It's great for students who don't want to lug heavy backpacks, and for commuters who'd rather keep their briefcases thin.


Palm Reader tips

  • Adjust brightness for easier reading by tapping the Brightness icon in the writing area.

  • To improve readability, use the Options menu to change the text size or invert the screen.

  • Create and assign categories for all your books by opening a book and tapping the Info icon at the bottom of the page.

  • Change the display to horizontal in Options > Screen Preferences.
