Chapter 8
The Active Directory User Interface
Active Directory stores directory data, and ADSI helps retrieve it. It's up to your application to present the information to users in a meaningful and useful way. In this chapter, I'll show how to take advantage of the user interface components that Active Directory provides. I've also included some C++ code that you can use to invoke the dialog boxes that the Active Directory snap-ins and the Microsoft Windows shell use for viewing and administering Active Directory.
The user interface (UI) components that Active Directory provides fall into two broad categories: common dialog boxes for selecting domains, containers, or objects, and various other user interface elements customized for individual object classes. These elements include property pages, context menus, and wizards that walk users through the creation of a new object.
