Chapter 4: Designing Longer Publications

Overview

In Part One, you worked with several types of short publications, and gained a good foundation in Publisher s basics. Because you created publications using Publisher s built-in design sets, you had to do very little design work. However, when you create longer publications, layout and editorial issues are much more important. For example, if a publication includes several stories, you must decide in what order to place them and how the text of each story should flow on each page. Depending on the type of publication, you might also need to incorporate graphics, tables, or forms into the publication. In this chapter, you create a monthly newsletter for Adventure Works. Even if you don t anticipate ever publishing a newsletter, you will be able to apply the concepts discussed in this chapter to any long publication, and once you feel comfortable, you can experiment on your own. (Often the most attention- grabbing designs break all the rules!)

When you have finished this chapter, you will know how to:

  • Set up newsletters

  • Make design decisions

  • Work with text in longer publications

  • Fill white space

  • Create tables from scratch

  • Work with forms
