Emailing Pictures

It's fun to share pictures with friends and family. In addition to printing, you can email pictures using the E-mail Picture command in the task pane. You might, for instance, email a picture of your new puppy to your friends, or you might email pictures from a family reunion to your family members who live out of town. To email pictures, simply follow these steps:

tip

If your digital camera has a memory card, you can often take this card to a local print service and order prints from the card. Check with your favorite print shop to see what digital camera services it provides.

1.

Open the folder containing the pictures you want to email.

2.

Select the picture(s) you want to send. Pictures are like regular files. You can change how they are displayed using the View menu, and you can select them just like you select regular files. (See Chapter 3, "Managing Files," and Chapter 16, "Viewing and Finding Files," for more information.)

note

It is best to consider reducing the file size of the picture before emailing it, so it doesn't take as long to transfer on a slow connection. You can do this by reducing its size and image quality.

3.

In the File and Folder Tasks area of the task pane, click E-mail this file. You are then prompted to optimize the image (which speeds sending and opening the picture).

4.

Make your selections and click OK. Windows opens an Outlook Express email window with the picture attached (see Figure 12.9).

Figure 12.9. Enter the email address, type a message, and click Send to send the picture.

5.

Complete the email address and any message you want to send with the picture attachment. Then click the Send button. See Chapter 7, "Sending and Receiving Email" for more information on sending messages.
