Tailoring Process Guidance

The process template also contains all of the files that represent process guidance. Remember what process guidance is; it’s the Web pages that describe how the process works, what the work items do, and generally who does what by when (Figure 7-28). As you make changes to the underlying process templates, such as creating new work items or changing the definitions of existing work items, it would be nice to have these changes reflected in the process guidance. Unfortunately, this is not very easy or very practical because there is no tool that will make this job easier for you. In fact, this is such a complicated task that project managers will likely always call upon a developer to perform these modifications. Details of process guidance editing will not be provided in this book because you would need a deep understanding of XML to do it. If you are still interested in how you can modify process guidance for your teams or organization, the best action to take is to read the six-part article on this task that you can download from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/ en-us/dnvs05/html/MSF_buildprocess.asp.

Process guidance data is actually stored in a document library definition and can be viewed by using the Process Template Editor when performing maintenance on the portal configuration area.
