Why Do You Want a Theme?

If you are just going to create value statements next , why bother with a theme? There are three reasons to create your value themes.

First, figuring out how to translate financial value chains into value statements can seem daunting. Value themes help you both to focus and to clarify. Working out your value theme helps you simplify the process of creating value statements because you ‚ ll be comparing the same finance and performance measures in your themes and in your statements. Each piece of your theme is used again in the first half of your value statements. Creating a theme saves you time while still allowing you to customize your value statements even more closely to your audience.

Second, there are times when all you will want to use is your theme. For example, if you happen to be talking with a new acquaintance in your community, you may not know what industry he or she is in or what audience level he or she represents. Using a performance theme allows you to describe your value in general terms. As the conversation progresses, you can provide more specific value statements if that is appropriate.

Third, value themes are very versatile. They can be used as headings during presentations or on marketing brochures . They can introduce sections in reports , be used in conversations, or serve as the lead-in for more detailed value statements.
