Interoperability Patches

 < Day Day Up >

Historically, Oracle has always allowed for the incorporating of newer technology into the Financials/Applications (now Oracle E-Business Suite) by means of interoperability patches. This custom was probably first noticed when the support of Reports 2.5 was brought into the mix. Interoperability patches were first widely used with Version 10.7 of the Applications and with Oracle 7 when Oracle 7 went to Release 7.3.4.

What is an interoperability patch? It is Oracle's vehicle by which it can ensure that its Applications systems will run against newly released back-end technology or with the newer Apps Servers or Apache Server (for example). It brings all of the current component code to the same compatibility level as with the newer features. If the suggested interoperability patches are not installed with their corresponding new product versions (refer to README for this information), then the system is unlikely to run correctly. Without implementation of the interoperability patches, it is quite possible that the system could fail completely until all of the pieces are in place.

There are interoperability patches that are required when migrating from 10.7 to 11.0 to 11i.
