When ProLiant servers transition from one generation to the next, there is a need to visually identify which generation of server is being serviced. To ensure that the correct documentation, options, and parts are used, a 1-square-centimeter label is affixed to the server to identify Generation 2 (G2) and subsequent generations. On rack servers, the label is located in the left rack screw opposite the Intel logo. In tower servers, the label is located in the top-left chassis behind the door or bezel. The identifier is used in technical documentation when the generation difference is relevant. The identifier is used in several formats, depending on constraints, such as available space in a database field. The identifier might not be used in certain marketing documentation, such as brochures and pictures. It will not be applied retroactively, but will be implemented with new generations of servers in the future. Note The generation identifier is not an indication of any specific technology. A G2 server can be just as current a product as a related G3 server. It identifies the hierarchy of the server in the technology evolution and distinguishes between legacy and new servers. |
