12.3. StorageWorks MSA20

The MSA20 enclosure is a SATA 1.5 Gb/s disk drive storage enclosure with Ultra320 SCSI host connectivity. The MSA20 is a 2U rack-mountable 12-drive SATA external enclosure that is for minimum I/O workloads such as reference data, archival, and disk-to-disk backup.

All models of the MSA20 enclosure family have the following features:

• Support for SATA 160GB and 250GB drives allows up to 3TB of raw storage capacity in a 2U enclosure.

• Supports up to 12 (1-inch) SATA 1.5 Gb/s Universal serial hard disk drives.

• Up to 24TB of raw storage capacity in 18U when deployed behind the MSA1500 SAN controller shelf.

• Houses up to 21 enclosures in one 42U rack for a single-rack storage capacity of up to 63TB of disk storage.

• Ultra320 (LVD) host support compatibility with sixth generation Smart Array controllers.

• 128MB battery-backed write cache with 72hr battery life.

• Integrated Smart Array technology to minimize drive-rebuild time.

• Support for RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and advanced data guarding (ADG).

• Hot-pluggable disk drives, power supplies, and fans.

• Redundant fans and redundant power supplies.

• Integrated environmental monitoring monitors environmental conditions within the enclosure and components, such as the power supply and fans.

• Easy removal of parts provides better serviceability. No tools are required.
