Chapter 7. Using the Adobe Common Color Architecture

 < Day Day Up >

In this chapter, you'll learn to configure Adobe Creative Suite applications to uniformly handle color management using the Adobe Common Color Architecture; color manage artwork files; soft proof an illustration to simulate what the color will look like on an output device; embed profiles in artwork and save the artwork in the Adobe Portable Document format; and print illustrations using color management.

Download Chapter 7 files from www.peachpit.com/xpcolor.

This chapter takes approximately 2 hours to complete.

The Adobe Common Color Architecture, a common color management implementation developed by Adobe, ensures that all Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign and GoLive, support color management in the same way. By sharing the same Color Settings file, these applications make it easy for you to view and print consistent color, regardless which Creative Suite applications you use.

Note

All of the Adobe Creative Suite applications are available as 30-day trial versions on the Adobe Web site at www.adobe.com.

You already learned in Chapter 5 how to configure and use most of the features of the Adobe Common Color Architecture in Photoshop. In this chapter, you'll learn how use the Color Settings file in other Creative Suite applications, such as Illustrator and InDesign, how to apply these features in Adobe Illustrator to color manage vector artwork, and how to generate color-managed Adobe PDF files.
