Troubleshooting Checklist

If your client has problems associating to any of your APs, try the following:

  • If the client is a laptop, palmtop, or other portable device, try to move it closer to the AP.

  • Make sure the adapter is securely seated in the computer's adapter slot. Remove and reinsert the adapter to ensure it is properly seated.

  • Make sure the antenna is properly attached. (This is especially important for desktop PCs with a removable antenna.)

  • Confirm that the AP is turned on and runs properly.

  • Double-check your settings on both the client and AP. Parameters to check include:

    - SSID

    - EAP authentication

    - WEP activation

    - The correct WEP key (Remember that WEP keys are lengthy, and if even one character is incorrect, the key won't work.)

  • Confirm network settings.

  • Confirm that TCP/IP is installed on the AP and clients.

  • Confirm that the AP and client use the same channel.
