Summary

This chapter discussed advanced techniques of SQL and JDBC that add a professional touch to applications, including using connection pooling to build very scalable applications and using stored procedures and prepared statements to get performance improvements. Rowsets and auto-generated keys were covered as well in this chapter.

The next chapter explains what database metadata is, how to use it to discover properties of a database and the objects that it contains, and how to work with metadata belonging to result sets.
