Importing Sounds

The procedure for importing sounds is just like the procedure for importing bitmaps or other artwork: You use the File > Import command. Flash brings the sound file into the library for the current movie, and you drag a copy of the sound from the Library window into that movie.

To import a sound file:

1. Open the file to which you want to add sounds.

2. From the File menu, choose Import or press -R (Mac) or Ctrl-R (Windows) (Figure 14.3).

   The standard file-import dialog box appears (Figure 14.4).

3. From the Show pop-up menu (Mac) or the Files of Type pop-up menu (Windows), choose the format of the sound file that you want to import.

   Flash imports AIFF files for the Mac, WAV files for Windows, and MP3 files for both platforms.

4. Navigate to the sound file on your system.

5. Select the file.

6. Click Open.

   Flash imports the sound file that you selected, placing it in the library. Flash displays the waveform of the sound in the Library preview window (Figure 14.5).

Tips

• You can hear a sound without placing it in a movie. Select the sound in the Library window. Flash displays the waveform in the preview window. To hear the sound, click the Play button in the preview window.

• Not sure what sound formats are available to you? You don't have to choose a specific one; you can choose All Sound Formats from the pop-up menu of file types in the Import dialog box.
