Animating Color Effects

Tweening isn't just about changing the position of an item on the Stage. When you use motion tweening with symbol instances, you can also tween changes in color.

To change a symbol's color over time

1.

In a new Flash document, or in a new layer of an existing document, in keyframe 1, place a symbol instance on the Stage.

2.

In the Timeline, select frame 5, and choose Insert > Timeline > Keyframe.

Flash duplicates the contents of keyframe 1 in a new keyframe.

3.

With keyframe 5 as the current frame, select the symbol.

4.

To change the symbol's color, in the Properties tab of the Property inspector, from the Color menu, choose new settings. (For detailed instructions on modifying symbol color, see Chapter 7.)

5.

Select any of the frames in the first keyframe span (1, 2, 3, or 4).

6.

In the Properties tab of the Property inspector, from the Tween pop-up menu, choose Motion.

Flash recolors the graphic-object in three transitional stepsone for each in-between frame (Figure 9.7).

Figure 9.7. You can change the color of a symbol, as well as its position, in a motion tween. Flash creates transitional colors for each in-between frame.

Tip

  • You can motion-tween a change in a graphic-object's transparency (Alpha) to make that graphic appear to fade in or out.
