Moving Files on the Files Panel

 < Day Day Up >

In Lesson 10, you created pop-up menus in Fireworks, adding text and links for the menus. Now in Dreamweaver, you've created some of the pages for those links.

The filenames for the recipe pages you just produced may not match the filenames when you created the links in Fireworks. You can edit the pop-up menus in Dreamweaver and adjust the filenames.

Before you edit the files, suppose you decide you want to organize them for the site. Currently, they are in the HTML folder of the site, along with the other pages you created. Instead, you want to store them in a separate folder within the site. This task is easily done on the Files panel.

1.

Select the HTML folder in your site. Right-click (PC) or Control-click (Mac) and select New Folder from the context menu.

An untitled folder is added within the root folder, and the name (untitled) is selected.

2.

Type recipes as the folder name, and then press Enter (PC) or Return (Mac). Drag the recipe files you created and drop them onto the recipe folder. Click Update.

When you move a file, Dreamweaver prompts you to update any file that links to that file.
