Adding More Slices

 < Day Day Up >

You added slices on the buttons and the rollovers to control the interactivity of those areas. You can also add slices to create links for graphics or to control the cells of the table that is created when you export the page. You will use the top portion of this page the logo, the buttons, and the red header section on the other pages of your site. The candy in the logo would be a good place to add a link that returns the user to this home page. To add the link, you need to add a slice.

1.

Select the Slice tool and draw a slice on the candy. Draw another slice on the candy stick.

Remember that the slices are defining cells in the HTML table. Make sure that the widths of these two slices are the same. Adjust each slice if necessary to make them the same. Use the red slice guides to help position or size the slices.

Note

You may need to move the text block if it is too close to the stick.

2.

Select the slice over the candy. In the Property inspector, type candy in the Slice Name text box.

Your entry in the Name text box is used as the name of the graphic when you export your page.

3.

Select the slice over the candy stick. In the Property inspector, type stick in the Slice Name text box. Add a slice to the text block and to each of the remaining areas of the red header.

Use the red slice guides to help you determine areas that need smaller slices.

Note

You will use the top header portion of this page, along with the buttons, the candy logo, and the stick, on the remaining pages that you build. By adding the slices and naming the slices, you ensure that all of the other pages use the same images for the top portion of the HTML page.

4.

Save your file.

You will use this file in the next lesson.
