Page Borders

Page Borders

Page borders are pretty self-explanatory. However, I constantly see a couple of the same questions about this over and over, which really don’t have to do with the feature, and you’ll see why.

A lot of people want to add to the page borders that are available. I know of no way to add to the page border formats available in the Page Border dialog box.

If you want a custom border, create your own in any graphics program, or Insert → Picture → Clipart and choose from the many page borders available online. If you create your own, you’ll want to make the border graphic the same size as the paper you’re printing on.

Go to View → Header and Footer. Hit Insert → Picture, choose Clipart or From File, and choose your graphic border. After inserting it, double-click it to ensure that it is the same size as your paper and position it to exactly align with the top-left corner of your page. Also be sure that you’ve formatted it to be BEHIND text.

This method puts a page border on every page. If you only want a page border on a certain page, you’ll have to handle it as you would any other page that would contain a different header. See Tables on page 12-1.
