The Keywords Pane

The Keywords pane is a photo search tool. Assigning keywords to photos makes it easy to search for specific photos later. You can create as many keywords as you need. A photo can have one or more keywords assigned to it. Keywords appear in the Keywords pane (shown on the left). In iPhoto Preferences you can add, remove, or rename keywords, as explained below.

Use the Keywords pane to find photos

1.	Click the Keywords button (the key icon circled, shown to the left) to show the Keywords pane. Click again to hide the Keyword pane.
2.	Click a keyword in the list to show all photos that have that keyword assigned. The selected keyword is highlighted and all relevant photos are shown in the viewing area. You can choose more than one keyword at a time to search. Option-click on a keyword in the list to hide all photos that contain that keyword (the keyword button turns red). To show only photos that do not have keywords assigned, Option-click all keyword buttons.
3.	Click a keyword again to remove it from the search criteria. You can also click "Reset" (the circle-x) to clear the search results from the viewing area and show all photos in the selected album.

To assign keywords to photos

1.	Select a photo, or multiple photos, from the Library or from any album.
2.	From the Photos menu choose "Get Info" to open the "Photo Info" window (shown on the left). Or press Command I. Or Control-click a photo, then choose "Show Info."
3.	Click the checkbox of any keyword you want to assign to the selected photo (or photos).

To add, remove, or rename keywords

1.	From the iPhoto menu, choose "Preferences…," then click the "Keywords" button in the Preferences toolbar.
2.	Select a keyword, then click the "Rename" button to rename it, or click the "Remove" button to remove it from the list.
3.	Click the "Add" button to add a new keyword. A new keyword appears with the default name of "untitled." Type a new keyword name to replace the default name.
