Chapter 4. The Command Line Interface

Juniper Networks routers are equipped with a versatile and efficient interface that you can use to control and enable various JUNOS software features. To unleash the power of JUNOS and to aid in the true understanding of the capabilities of the Juniper Networks routers, it is critical that you have a mastery of the CLI. The CLI also serves as an interface in which you can create, modify, control, and manage the JUNOS configuration files.

In JUNOS software, there are two CLI modes: operational and configuration. This chapter describes modes, their capabilities, and their navigation. After you understand the capabilities of the CLI, you will be able to customize your CLI environment, understand CLI messages, monitor users, and get help in each mode.
