24.4 Working with Linked Objects - Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)

24.3 Exporting Image Files

It seems that there are almost as many ways to export image files as there are types of image files to export. Luckily, AutoCAD has also provided a single command that covers the spectrum. That command is Export, and it works with a Windows standard Save-type dialog box.

The Export Data dialog box works as easily as the Save dialog box. Simply select the type of file you wish in the Save as type control box, and then pick the Save button.

Let's give it a try.

Note

You can also access the Export command via the File pull-down menu. Follow this path:

    File – Export …

Do This: 24.3.1 Exporting Image Files

  1. Be sure you're still in the DispOrd.dwg file in the C:\Steps\Lesson24 folder. If not, please open it now.

  2. Follow these steps.

    Command: export

    1. Enter the Export command at the command prompt.

    2. AutoCAD presents the Export Date dialog box. Pick the down arrow next to the Files of type control box, and select Bitmap (*.bmp).

    3. Pick the Save button to return to the command line.

Select objects or <all objects and viewports>: [enter]

    4. Hit enter to select all the objects in the drawing.

    5. Use Windows' Paint (or any other graphics program) to view the DispOrd.bmp file you just created in the C:\Steps\Lesson24 folder.

Try repeating the last exercise using the Cutting table24.dwg file. Does it work? (Note: In earlier releases, it didn't work because of the viewports. Welcome to 2004!)

Note

The Export command usurps several graphics-type-specific commands including the following:
