COM on Windows NT 4.0

[Previous] [Next]

The next question concerns the issue of COM+ being available on the Windows NT 4.0 platform. Although not recently, Microsoft has in fact said that it's absolutely committed to making COM+ available on Windows NT as well as on Windows 2000. We don't know for sure whether this will happen, but we certainly hope it will. While no doubt many companies will upgrade early to Windows 2000, others will wait. For developers, COM+ on Windows NT 4.0 and possibly also on Windows 98 and Windows 95 would be a blessing, allowing the developer to take advantage of such features as queued components and loosely coupled events not only on Windows 2000 but in applications that must be relatively platform independent. Let's hope that Microsoft successfully ports COM+ at least to Windows NT 4.0.
