Some Final General Thoughts About COM

[Previous] [Next]

We'd like to finish this chapter with some general comments and observations that concern COM+. The first comment concerns the compatibility of COM+ with MTS; the second is about the possible availability of COM+ on the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 platform.

About Compatibility with MTS

We must confess that we haven't tried this, but as far as we've been able to understand, your current applications, written for MTS, should run without any modifications at all in COM+. When you install Windows 2000 as an upgrade to Windows NT 4.0, your MTS packages should automatically be converted to COM+ applications. And all the components installed in these packages or applications should run in COM+ without change. So to have your MTS components run in COM+, you shouldn't have to do anything. To have them take advantage of new features in COM+, you might have to make a few modifications, but, as Kipling said, that's another story.
