Chapter 7. Using the CSA User Interface

 < Day Day Up >

This chapter includes the following topics:

  • Windows agent interface

  • Linux agent interface

  • Solaris agent interface

The Cisco Security Agent (CSA) product includes a GUI that can be presented to local users on their protected workstations. This interface provides local users information about the local agent actions and enables them to control the personal firewall, view local log files, and much more. This agent GUI is flexible enough such that you can hide it from the end user if desired.

The CSA user GUI can prove very useful in providing information to the user about successful policy enforcement. You might find it is more desirable that users have limited or possibly no interaction with the CSA, however, which is very common. Only users who you consider trustworthy should have the ability to view the interface on the local machine.

Rules configured within the CSA MC enable you to provide or hide the user GUI. Because GUI availability is controlled via a rule, you can use user and system state sets as described in Chapter 4, "Understanding CSA Policies, Modules, and Rules," to decide exactly when the GUI is available and to whom. This capability is how you can enable a technician logged in to the protected system as local administrator to see and use the GUI while the everyday user of the system cannot.

This chapter takes a close look at the information the GUI provides and examines the possible uses the end user may desire or require. These and other agent options are discussed for Windows, Linux, and Solaris systems.
