Configuring the Security Monitor

The CSA MC CiscoWorks component does not require any explicit configuration to communicate with the Security Monitor. All configuration is performed within the Security Monitor itself. To configure the Security Monitor to communicate with the CSA MC, open the Security Monitor from the VMS drawer on the server, as shown in Figure B-1.

When the Security Monitor application opens, follow these steps, which correspond to Figure B-2:

Step 1.

Click Devices > Add.

Step 2.

Choose Cisco SA MC > Next.

Step 3.

Enter the information required into the Add Device page, as follows:

  • IP Address Enter the address of the CSA MC.

  • NAT Address If the CSA MC is behind a NAT device, add the appropriate NAT address. Otherwise, leave this field empty; it is not required.

  • Device Name Enter the name that will appear in the device list.

  • Description Enter a description for the CSA MC. A description assists other administrators in understanding special information regarding this device.

  • Certificate Common Name Enter the name from the CSA MC SSL certificate.

  • Web Server Port Enter the web server port that should be used for communication. By default, this is set to TCP/443, which is SSL.

  • Username Enter a valid CSA MC administrator name. For auditing purposes, make this name unique so that no other administrator uses this account.

  • Password Enter and verify the password for the CSA MC administrator account.

  • Minimum Event Level From the drop-down list, choose the minimum event level you want to add to the Security Monitor database.

Step 4.

Click Finish to complete the device configuration.

After the sensor has been added, you should see the device listed either alone or with your other monitored devices, as in Figure B-3.
