Performing Layout Detection

You re likely to be called upon to edit any number of Web pages in the course of work or personal Web development. Many of those pages will use tables, which are increasingly popular tools for Web page layout. Some of those pages will have used FrontPage s layout tables feature, but many will have been created by more conventional means ”and if someone else designed the page, you might not be sure what to expect. You can configure FrontPage to automatically detect any layout tables and automatically turn on layout table controls. To turn on layout detection, follow these steps:

1. Switch to Design View, if necessary, and position the cursor within the table. Then select Table, Table Properties, Table.

2. In the Table Properties dialog box, check one of the following:

   • Select Enable Layout tools, in order to work with the layout table and cell controls for the currently selected table.

   • Select Disable Layout tools, in order to turn off layout table and cell controls for the currently selected table.

   • Select Automatically Enable Layout tool based on table contents, if you want FrontPage to enable any layout table controls for this table when you open the current Web page.

3. Click OK.

When you click on the table border to begin working on it, the layout tools will appear. Otherwise, they won t appear automatically when you click the table border.

The preceding steps only apply to the currently selected table ”unless you select Set As Default for new tables in the Table Properties box. This enables you to turn on automatic table layout detection for any new tables you create.
