Setting Up the Network Client

 < Day Day Up >

The client in both peer-to-peer networks and dedicated server networks is a computer that uses shared resources. To access shared resources, a client computer needs

  • Network client software

  • The name of the network and server(s) with shared resources

  • The correct password(s) to access shared resources that use passwords

  • The printer drivers for the network printers

With Windows, the Network or Network Connections icon in the Control Panel is used to install network client software and to indicate the name of the network.

Network Neighborhood (Windows NT 4.0/9x/Me) or My Network Places (Windows XP/2000) is used to locate shared resources and to provide passwords. The Printers icon is used to set up access to a network printer.
