WORKING WITH ILLUSTRATOR SCRIPTS

You can also automate Illustrator tasks through the use of scripts. Illustrator supports scripts written in Visual Basic, AppleScript, and JavaScript.

The benefit to scripting, which is like writing a mini computer program, is that you can create scripts to perform everyday or not-so-everyday tasks for you. As with actions, after you work in Illustrator for a while you start to recognize the types of things that scripting might help with. In addition, remember that SVG interactivity relies on JavaScript to perform actions.

For more information on scripts and how they can help make Illustrator easier to work with, check out http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/illustrator/sdk/index_scripting.html.
