17.10. Summary

This chapter discussed how to diagnose problems encountered while working with DB2. DB2 reports problems using error messages and codes. The help (?) CLP command is a quick method to obtain more information about a particular error code.

The First Failure Data Capture (FFDC) is a generic term that refers to several diagnostic files that are generated or updated automatically by DB2, like the administration notification log or the file db2diag.log. Use the db2support tool to collect these diagnostic files automatically in a zip file called db2support.zip. For some types of problems, like hangs or crashes, DB2 Technical Support may ask you to collect a DB2 trace.
